For Cited i am making my work about the relationship and differences between the natural and artificial worlds. I am illustrating this by making a piece of work that tries to bridge the gap, by combining materials with natural origins and altering them subtly so they are artificial but appear still natural – however, other parts may seem artificial, but are in fact natural. This point i am illustrating with the Bismuth crystals.

An Artist i know who also plays with the rift between organic and synthetic is Theo Janssen, and in particular his ‘Strandbeest’ series of kinetic sculptures which move like animals but are entirely constructed. It was interesting how his technical knowledge and mastery of unpowered engineering, very ‘artificial’ skills and processes, allowed the constructions to channel such a natural feel. if i can illustrate a similar duality in my Cited piece I will consider it a success.
